When we were expecting Joshua, I was excited to be having a boy. I pictured rough-and-tumble play time, cars and trucks and lots of primary colors. As someone who had never been what you'd call a girly-girl, this is a picture I was comfortable with. Fast forward 8 years and I realize I missed something critical. Baby boys grow up, they get taller, they start thinking for themselves - and GIRLS.
Anyone reading this right now is thinking, "Um, yeah - are you clueless?" - so allow me to explain my panic. I got an email from the teacher today. This is unfortunately not that unusual. Staying ahead of his creativity is often a group effort. But today was a bit different - he didn't take anything apart, reprogram electronics, or wander into any forbidden classrooms. He's burping. On purpose. Repeatedly. Sigh.
In trying to explain that this is not socially accepted - and therefore something he should STOP - I was greeted with a giant grin. "But she thinks it's funny! I burp and she laughs - and I like it when she laughs!" Bottom line - it appears my little man has discovered that the cute girl in his class likes a funny guy. And if being funny means you get in trouble at school - well, that's small consequence. I am so very not ready for this - not even a little.
